The delayed version 0.2 update is now bigger than anticipated, and includes the ‘career’ and ‘open’ mode split

It’s been nearly three months since the last significant update for Assetto Corsa EVO, and since then, developer Kunos Simulazioni has made changes based on the mixed response.

That includes revising the roadmap, with a ‘refactoring’ of the game’s structure potentially shifting expected releases back, but at the same time, enlarging this crucial 0.2 update (and promising to bring forward mod support, for a later early access release).

Version 0.2 of EVO will be released on Wednesday, 7th May 2025 at 2 pm UTC. Due to the summer-time zones currently in use, that converts to 7 am DT / 10 am EDT / 3 pm BST / 4 pm CEST.

Two new tracks, not one

The ‘second major’ updated for the embryonic driving simulation was slated to include the Texan grand prix venue Circuit of the Americas, and it still does.

But now, British Midlands venue Donington Park is also part of the update, teased in recent trailers. Both tracks were also in the development team’s Assetto Corsa Competizione title. Red Bull Ring is also expected soon, but not in this particular update.

Seven cars, four confirmed

There will be seven new vehicles in this update, as opposed to the originally expected five. They are:

  • Maserati GT2
  • Lotus Exige V6 Cup
  • Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
  • Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione
  • Mazda MX-5 (NA)
  • Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 (964)
  • Honda NSX-R

Most of these have been teased long ago for the title, with the Maserati being first unveiled in April. We have a full car list, combining confirmed and teased cars. Of note, the F1-style single-seater (presumed Ferrari F1 car) and McMurtry Spéirling are absent.

Open and career mode split

As clarified to Traxion recently, the game’s structure will be changed. In a career mode will reside the in-game economy, driving academy, car customisation and, ultimately, for the full version 1.0 release, a sense of progression.

Meanwhile, the open mode is expected to be a traditional sim racing ‘sandbox’.

This change will arrive with 0.2’s update, although clearly neither mode will be ‘complete’ at this time. All modes apart from multiplayer and special events will be playable offline, if not by this update, in a future one.

Quality of life changes

Aside from more content, enhanced triple screen and VR support are also expected, although details are absent at this time. Similarly, additional replay tools.

The ability to create a custom single-player race against AI opponents, with car and grid position selection, has been previously detailed, however, and is present in this next update.

As ever, a selection of fresh ‘special events’ with online leaderboards will be present.

“EA2 is more than just a release – it’s the foundation for what’s next: new gameplay modes, major improvements, and the future of Assetto Corsa EVO taking shape,” said Kunos and 505 Games.

We’ll be back with the full changelog and our impressions later this week to see if that’s the case.
