The final VCO Grand Slam race of the year is always highly anticipated, and iRacing‘s Petit Le Mans always marks the end of the long endurance racing summer of iRacing Special Events. Blue Mercure took charge right from the beginning, with pole in both the GTP and GT3 classes.
GT3 was the more impressive, as it held all of the top three positions, while in LMP2 Uni-G Racing, formerly Szese Esport, took the top spot.
And it was in LMP2 where there was the most early drama, as DWR Performance had contact coming through the final chicane coming to the green flag, they spun, and two other cars got early meatball flags.
Alxander Spetz started the Blue Mercure car in the lead but didn’t get much of a gap until the first run through traffic after ten minutes, where they came out around five seconds out front. When the LMP2s reached traffic for the first time five minutes later, the top four were embroiled in a battle for the lead.
Connor Jupp of Deletraz Automotive was sat in second as the leader went to the outside of the final chicane, and the space opened up on the inside. Jupp went right, taking them three-wide, and taking the lead through the final corner in an extraordinary move.
