1987 Pontiac Grand Prix NASCAR heading to iRacing

The third car from the NASCAR Cup Series Season 36 years ago will appease Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The 1987 NASCAR Cup Series Season representation looks set to expand, with the ability to buy the matching Pontiac Grand Prix locked in.

Following the 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Thunderbird and Buick Lesabre (released in February last year) plus that season’s North Wilkesboro Speedway, already available for the subscription-based sim racing platform, the Pontiac nearly completes the set, with just the Oldsmobile Delta missing.

Back in September 2022, Dale Earnhardt Jr. tweeted (yes, back then it was still called Twitter) Richard Petty’s STP-backed #43 Petty Enterprises entry, leading us to speculate whether the car was indeed being scanned for iRacing. This was followed a day later by an image of what looked to be an iRacing employee using scanning paraphernalia on the vehicle.

Petty would finish eighth in the championship standings that season, with Dale Earnhardt of Richard Childress Racing winning the title in a Chevrolet.

A year later, the model is set for a Season 4 release due next month following a post by the title on social media. It is set to join the Porsche 963 LMDh/GTP when the new content launches.
