Your guide to Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races, w/c 6th February: Winning for Weissach

This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races feature the Porsche 911 GT3 (996) at Brands Hatch, Gr.3s at Dragon Trail and Gr.4s around Willow Springs.

This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races return to a familiar format. While Race A is a single-make event for Porsche 911 GT3s, Races B and C are for the old favourites of GT7’s Sport Mode: Gr.3 and Gr.4 respectively.

Things are a little more straightforward than last week at least, which was rather overrun by Nissan Silvias…

Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances.

As ever, your results in Race A will not affect Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR), so feel free to race as hard as you like. The results for Races B and C do count, however.

RACE A

Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, w/c 6th February: Winning for Weissach

For Race A we take to the wheel of Porsche’s first-ever 911 GT3 model. Originally built in 1999, the GT3 was the pinnacle of Porsche’s 911 model range. Its roots can be traced back to Porsche Motorsport’s research and development base in Weissach, Germany.

Weissach is the test track and factory where all of Porsche’s racecars are developed, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning GT1. In fact, the engine from this – designed by Porsche legend Hans Mezger – was dropped into the GT3, making it a seriously quick road car (with an unbelievable soundtrack, of course).

This single-make race takes place on Brands Hatch’s Grand Prix layout, and its elevation changes and high-speed turns are very much in the Porsche’s comfort zone. Being rear-engined, however, the 911 can bite back as the pendulous rear-end tries to swap places with the front.

It’s a car that demands respect and careful brake application to build up grip over the light front axle.

Race B

Polyphony Digital has seemingly hit on a winning formula in Race B, as its Balance of Performance (BoP) calculations for the Gr.3 class appear to be spot on. Several different cars can achieve similar lap times, making players confident that poor results won’t be the fault of their car choice.

We recommend the fictional Jaguar F-Type Gr.3. With its brutal V8 and beautiful looks, the F-Type is still one of the most desirable sports cars on the planet. Two GT4 versions were developed for motorsport and ran in the British GT Championship between 2018-19, but were sadly never seen again, being put up for sale in 2020.

Dragon Trail’s Reverse Gardens layout is the venue for Race B, so try to keep the Jag’s paintwork clean through the chicane of death – still just as tricky the wrong way round.

Race C

Gr.4 racing has always been a bit of a mixed bag in GT7, the category mostly being dominated by a handful of four-wheel-drive cars. It comes as a pleasant change then, that a front-wheel-drive car is at the top of the timesheets this time round.

The Audi TT Cup was originally designed as a one-make series supporting Germany’s premier touring car series, the DTM. Starting in 2015, the championship provided close, exciting racing until it folded in 2017.

With 310bhp and an extra 30bhp available from a push-to-pass button, the TT Cup isn’t the fastest car around, but with only 1125kg to shift it corners like it’s on rails, making it ideal on Willow Spring’s long sweeps.

Fuel consumption is 7x for Race C requiring a light right foot, while tyre wear is set to 1x, so not an issue. Players need to use the Hard Racing tyre compound, so the key to the race is deciding when to switch to Mediums.
