New cars, events and Playgrounds environment coming to DIRT 5 next week

For those of us who enjoyed playing through the varied DIRT 5 career, but felt it ended all too soon, then fret not. The first serious content addition has been revealed for the off-road racing game.

Coming 22nd February 2021, the Energy Content pack features four news cars, 25 new career events plus some minor additions such as two new career sponsors (Xite and MadCroc) and additional customisation items. I mean, who doesn’t want more lanyards…?

The highlights are the new vehicles and it’s a delightfully eclectic selection. They are:

• Chevrolet Silverado 1500
• GMC Sierra Pre-Runner
• Alpine A110 Sports X
• Porsche Taycan Turbo S

One of the finest sportscars of all time, the electric future and two giant US pick-up trucks. Plenty to satisfy different tastes then. The 25 new career events feature the classes that match these new vehicles, so you should have plenty enough reason to try them out.

The pack will be across all platforms – PlayStation, Xbox and PC – and will be priced at $12.49/£9.99/€11.49. Unless that is, you have the Amplified Edition of the game or have previously purchased the Year One Upgrade, in which case it shall be no additional cost.

Speaking of no additional cost, game update 3.00 will launch at the same time, offering some changes to all players, regardless of their DLC stance.

A whole new location, Italy, will be available in the Playgrounds mode. This will hopefully offer the ability to create ever-different levels and rejuvenate the DIRT 5 creation community. This is the first arena to feature two different levels, with a drop in the middle connecting them and there will be 20 new items to place within levels. Next week may be the time to dip back in to try out what the community has created.

Last but not least, and also free to all players, the Ford RS200, Ford Escort RS Cosworth and Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 will receive a new livery option, each harking back to their WRC days of competition. Oh, and the level cap will increase to 120 too.

Plenty to go at then. DIRT 5 has been crying out for something to tempt players back in, and this mix of free and paid content will hopefully do just that. But what are your thoughts? Is this enough to make you launch the game again? Let us know in the comments.
