The first MotoGP 22 gameplay footage is here, and rather unconventionally, our first look is of the split-screen multiplayer.
A new feature for the official game of Grand Prix motorcycle racing, local split-screen will allow for players to play with friends and family members when in the same room, something not possible since MotoGP 17.
Based upon this footage, performance is simultaneously smooth and detailed, with no obvious ‘downgrading’ of graphical performance when compared to traditional single player.
We are treated to a battle between the two real-world 2021 title protagonists – Fabio Quartararo on the Yamaha and Francesco Bagnaia on the Ducati around Jerez. Note the 2021 liveries, which will be updated upon MotoGP 22’s release to the current season’s designs.
While the video title states ‘next-gen’, it’s not yet clear what specific device this has been captured on. The previous MotoGP 21 featured spectacular visuals on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S – we expect this to take a step up even further this year with the added face animations, improved 3D characters and updated track surfaces.
MotoGP 22 launches on 21st April 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, plus Nintendo Switch, but minus split-screen on that platform.
