Initially announced as in development back in March 2020, the latest financial results of game developer Frontier Developments has revealed that the company plans to release its first Formula 1 management game before the end of this year.
In the Interim Results document, it states that the plan is to release the title “during the 2022 F1 season.”
“This calendar year will see us enter the incredible world of Formula 1 – a truly global sport – with the first release for our annual F1 management game franchise.”
But, as is often the case with financial documents, that’s all there is. However, this is still an important update as news had gone very quiet since the initial discussion, with some fans fearing a delay.
This will be the first F1 management title from the creators of Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, Elite Dangerous and Jurassic World Evolution, following a landmark multi-year deal to exclusively develop officially licenced titles based on the world’s premier single-seater motorsport class.
The deal, as reported by Eurogamer, is set to span both PC and consoles and currently runs to 2025.
For now, then, it’s just a titbit of news to remind people that this game exists – but now we know its release is near, we’re clamouring for more.
How this fits in alongside the F1 games from Codemasters will be particularly fascinating, after that series added a My Team managerial mode in 2020.
Let us know in the comments below what you’d like to see and we’ll keep you updated if we hear more. Of course, we didn’t include this in our 2022 racing game preview, did we… Sorry.
