This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races take advantage of the game’s recent mammoth v1.29 update by using the revitalised Grand Valley circuit in two of the three events.

Race B also takes in the Trial Mountain Circuit, meaning we’re treated to three of the Gran Turismo series’ best fictional tracks. Polyphony Digital’s ongoing work with its Balance of Performance (BoP) mechanics also appears to be bearing fruit, as the Gr.4 and Gr.3 races feature a wide variety of competitive cars.

Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances.

As ever, your results in Race A will not affect Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR), so feel free to race as hard as you like. The results for Races B and C do count, however.

RACE A

Gran Turismo 7, Grand Valley, Porsche 911

We use Grand Valley’s South configuration for Race A alongside the awesome air-cooled Porsche 911 Carrera RS CS.

Grand Valley South is a reimagining of the classic Grand Valley East layout first seen in Gran Turismo way back in 1997, and it offers plenty of elevation changes and flowing corners. Grand Valley is now a coastal highway with sheer drops into the ocean mere feet away, with cliff faces and scenic bridges adding to the Big Sur-style vibe.

It’s ideal territory for Porsche’s 911 Carrera RS CS, then, which was conceived as a homologation special for sportscar racing. Its 300bhp may seem fairly weedy by today’s standards, but its low weight and outrageous aerodynamics make it a true driver’s car. The 993-gen Porsche was also the last 911 to feature air cooling.

With only 227 examples ever made, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS CS (993) commands huge sums of money on the used car market, with most selling for over £150,000. Lower mileage examples go for closer to £500,000.

Probably not the best car to drive next to a cliff, then…

Recommended car: Porsche 911 Carrera RS CS (993) ’95 (Used Cars, 437,300 Credits)

Race B

Gran Turismo 7, Suzuki Swift Sport Gr.4, Trial Mountain

Race B is a Gr.4 event at the fan favourite Trial Mountain Circuit. And thankfully, it appears the BoP issues which have often affected Daily Races are being resolved somewhat, with a wide range of cars capable of similar lap times.

Due to this, our recommended car for Race B may come as a surprise, given that it’s essentially a supermini. Yes, the Suzuki Swift Sport is not the obvious choice for Gr.4 glory, but it’s certainly effective around Trial Mountain’s dips and dives, beating several Gr.4 favourites along the way – including the Subaru WRX.

Recommended car: Suzuki Swift Sport Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C

Gran Turismo 7, Grand Valley, Lamborghini Huracan GT3

We return to Grand Valley for Race C, but this time we’re using the longer Highway – 1 layout. Based on the full Grand Valley Speedway configuration from yesteryear, the track enjoys all the modern flourishes we’ve seen from GT7’s Deep Forest and Trial Mountain’s recent reimaginings.

And just as pleasingly, the BoP calculations appear to be solid too, with a few cars able to compete for top honours. In this case, we’d plump for the Lamborghini Huracán GT3.

Thanks to its stealth fighter looks and cacophonous V10 engine, the Lamborghini is one of the most spectacular GT3 cars, and in this case, it’s also one of the quickest.

Surprisingly, Race C has 1x fuel and tyre multipliers, so there’s little cause for strategy concerns, making this a full-on sprint race.

Recommended car: Lamborghini Huracán GT3 ‘15 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)

Lap Time Challenge

Gran Turismo 7's Lap Time Challenge, 2nd-16th March: Gr.3 chicanery

This fortnight’s Lap Time Challenge features Gr.3 cars at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya GP’s No Chicane Layout.

A new Lap Time Challenge will become available on the 16th of March at 7 am GMT.

Recommended car: Hyundai Genesis Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free car rental)
