We hope you’ve been practicing the strange, diminutive, French layout in the most recent Online Time Trial, because it’s used for this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races too.
Okay, so perhaps rightly, Alsace Test Course Reverse is only used for the Driver Ranking-excluding Race A, which means the more serious GT7 drivers will likely skip. But for those looking for a certain frisson to their online racing, look no further.
You can find Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races in the game’s Sport Mode; offering online ranked racing with players of a similar skill level based on previous performances.
Race A
Gran Turismo is often described as esoteric and if you’d like to know why, this race encapsulates the eccentricities.
Not only is the track the sort of thing my 17-year-old mind would create with some form of track editor tool but you’re also placed within the 1962 Volkswagen Sambabus.
The vehicle has become somewhat of an ironic video game icon, principally because of its hippie looks but also its dog-slow speed. Momentum is everything, so try to keep as much speed as possible through turn three before the giant uphill climb, keeping as far left as possible.
In the race scenario, a slipstream will be everything, so stay tucked in behind your closest rivals. The only clear overtaking opportunity is into Turn 5, expect desperate last-lap lunges.
However, while Race A will not affect your DR, it will affect your Safety Rating, so drive clean to avoid being knocked down a level. This formula was last seen in March of this year.
Recommended car: Volkswagen Sambabus Typ 2 ’62 (Used Cars, 67,500 Credits or free rental)
Race B
From one of the best real-world circuits in Gran Turismo 7 (Road Atlanta) last week, to another of the greats – Interlagos.
Other than that, however, the formula here has been played out many times before and isn’t particularly ground-breaking. It’s as if Polyphony Digital’s creative juices were all used up for Race A…
So, it’s the Brazilian circuit with any Gr.3 car of your choosing, no set-up changes allowed other than brake balance and Racing Hard tyres only across six laps. Simply, grind out those qualifying laps.
Historically around here, the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept ’18 has been the star of the show, but this time around, we’re recommending the Porsche 911 RSR (991). This is just a super solid, consistent, choice. Can’t go wrong.
Recommended car: Porsche 911 RSR (991) ’17 Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)
Race C
It wouldn’t be a Daily Race menu without a Gr.4 race and that means breaking out the OP MAZDA3 Gr.4, right?!
Wrong – no Gr.4 race this week, but instead the rapid Gr.2 cars and at one of the finest fictional venues – Autodrome Lago Maggiore.
The longer race this time around, 10 laps, requires you to use both the Racing Medium and Soft tyres and this visiting pitlane at least once mid-event. Starting slow on the mediums is probably the quickest strategy, but then only if you’re near the front of the grid, as battling in the early stages could lose you some time against any soft-shod rivals.
While we love the Mercedes and McLaren cars available in this category, outside of Circuit de la Sarthe or somewhere like Spa Francorchamps, forget it. It has to be a SUPER GT car, and in that case, it’s nearly always the 2016 Nissan GT-R for us – although kudos if you pull it off in the Honda.
Recommended car: Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 ’16 (Brand Central, 1,000,000 Credits or free rental)
