You can now play Gran Turismo 7 again thanks to the Version 1.08 update

The Version 1.08 patch is now available on both PS4 and PS5, fixing the error that rendered the game offline for nearly 33 hours.

Following the Version 1.07 update yesterday (17th March), Gran Turismo 7 developer Polyphony Digital extended the planned server maintenance, which meant the majority of the game’s features were rendered unplayable for nearly 33 hours. Now, Version 1.08 is released, and you can continue your career once again.

The new update is available to download now, 354.4 MB on PlayStation 5 and 222.8 MB on PlayStation 4.

The Version 1.07 update promised to fix the error where for certain Licence Tests, Missions and Circuit Experiences, vehicles were fitted with the incorrect tyres. It was also set to reduce the number of in-game credits paid out for several races, including the popular Fisherman’s Ranch Dirt Champions event – the easiest way to earn a quick buck.

However, while the update was downloadable, upon booting the game, the servers remained offline until just before 3 pm GMT / 4 pm CET on 18th March.

The official statement read: “Due to an issue found with Update 1.07, we are extending the current server maintenance period. We will confirm the completion time as soon as possible.”

Today’s new Version 1.08 carries across all of the promised 1.07 features, which we’ve re-listed below, alongside two further tweaks:

  • Fixed an issue wherein the lineup of cars would not appear in the Used Cars and Legend Cars dealerships;
  • Fixed an issue wherein in some cases the game would not progress to the World Map, making it impossible to play.

Kazunori apologises

The game’s lead producer, Kazunori Yamauchi had this to say about the delay and connection errors:

“Immediately before the release of the 1.07 update, we discovered an issue where the game would not start properly in some cases on product versions for the PS4 and PS5.

This was a rare issue that was not seen during tests on the development hardware or the QA sessions prior to the release, but in order to prioritize the safety of the save data of the users, we decided to interrupt the release of the 1.07 update and to make a 1.08 correctional update.

This is the reason for the delay. My sincere apologies for the late report to everyone.”

Rewards still reduced

The 18 events that were set to see changes to the reward payouts will remain that way. Once again, these are listed below, but Yamauchi was also at pains to explain the decision.

“In Gran Turismo 7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions.
At the same time, the pricing of cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real-world prices,” explained the Gran Turismo figurehead.

“I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to try to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again.”

Nissan Sileighty, Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 uses a Used Car Dealership and Legend Cars Pavilion, which are updated in some form each day, for the vast majority of its available vehicles. This delivered an engaging gameplay loop, with players logging in each day to see what is updated and if the elusive Nissan Sileighty is available, for example.

However, the lack of communication surrounding the changes to event rewards, plus the error that forced the servers offline, combined to create a perfect storm suggesting to some that a push for further microtransaction sales was being implemented.

The Fisherman’s Ranch Dirt Champions event has reduced its winnings from 65,000 credits to 30,000 credits. A Clean Race Bonus has been reduced from 97,500 to 45,0000 credits.

More content coming soon

With the change to smaller race rewards, comes a promise from the development team that more content is on the way soon. We’ve previously reported on the planned updates earlier this month, but Yamauchi today once again highlighted that more is on the way soon.

“We will in time let you know the update plans for additional content, additional race events and additional features that will constructively resolve this.

“It pains me that I can’t explain the details regarding this at this moment, but we plan on continuing to revise GT7 so that as many players as possible can enjoy the game.

“We would really appreciate it if everyone could watch over the growth of Gran Turismo 7 from a somewhat longer-term point of view.”

Today’s Used Car Dealership and Legend Cars hot picks

The new-to-Gran Turismo Ferrari 500 Mondial Pinin Farina Coupe ’54 makes its GT7 debut over in the Legend Cars pavilion, a snip at just 4,000,000 credits for the 2012 Pebble Beach award winner.

The Chevrolet Corvette (C2) ’63 is now also available for a comparative bargain price of 178,000 credits.
