Thrustmaster has just announced a fancy new wheelbase accessory designed for players to get the most from truck sim titles like Euro Truck Simulator 2.
The Thrustmaster SimTask Steering Kit enables the flat-mounting of wheelbases to simulate the upright driving position of a lorry, or even farming machinery like the combine harvesters found in Farming Simulator 22.
The wheel peripheral also includes a rotary spinner knob, which can be mounted to players’ wheelrims and doesn’t require any fitting tools.
The spinner is a realistic touch to help simulate driving heavy machinery – from buses to forklifts – with the SimTask Steering Kit allowing a 15° to 85° angle adjustment to suit multiple applications.
The mount can also be raised and lowered by 30mm, with its 2mm metal construction and robust desk clamp ensuring you won’t shed your load of pallets on an American Truck Simulator highway.
Compatibility
The Thrustmaster SimTask Steering Kit is compatible with the French company’s own T128 and T248 wheelbases, with the T128 arguably better suited to the task due to its circular rim. It will be available to pre-order from October with delivery units expected to ship in November.
It is unknown whether the SimTask Steering Kit will be compatible with any other brand of wheel at this time.
Traxion.GG went hands-on with the Thrustmaster SimTask Steering Kit at Gamescom using Movie Games’ upcoming truck title Alsakan Road Truckers, and we feel it offers an affordable and immersive way to enhance players’ truck sim experience, with the rotary knob helping immensely with lock-to-lock turns.
Although it doesn’t offer the rigidity of a custom rig, it still does a good job of providing an authentic platform for virtual truckers, and, combined with the Thrustmaster TH8S Shifter Add-On, offers great bang-for-buck in the realism stakes.
The Thrustmaster SimTask Steering Kit is set to retail at £69.99 / €79.99 € / $79.99 and can be used across PlayStation, Xbox and PC formats.
