Last month, Thrustmaster introduced a new quick-release system for affixing and removing steering wheels from compatible wheelbases like the T818 and the recently announced T598.
It’s a much slicker system than the old setup, which required a screwdriver whenever you wanted to remove a wheel, and the quick-release adaptor included with the T818.
When it was announced in September, Thrustmaster’s new screwdriver-less quick-release system was compatible with ten wheels, including the T300 Ferrari Alcantara Wheel, TM Leather 28 GT Wheel Add-On, and T500 RS Wheel.
However, the Formula Wheel Add-On Ferrari SF1000 Edition, a 1:1 replica of the wheel used in Ferrari’s 2020 Formula 1 car driven by Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel, was omitted, meaning you can only use the adapter.
However, this is set to change soon.
At the ADAC SimRacing Expo 2024, Thrustmaster showcased a prototype quick-release upgrade for the SF1000 working with the new T598 wheelbase. According to Thrustmaster, creating an upgrade kit for its flagship SF1000 wheel was more complex due to its bespoke LCD screen.
This will not only provide a more practical solution for removing the wheel, but Thrustmaster claims that the SF1000’s force feedback effect is more granular with the upgrade compared to the adaptor, which is a large extension.
Thrustmaster’s SF1000 quick-release upgrade has not been priced yet, but it will be available before the end of 2024.

It will definitely be released – we took the images of a working prototype in the very article. But, we do not know the release date, just ‘soon’. When we here more, we’ll publish a story.
VERY MUCH looking forward to it. T598 got a firmware update I’m sure you are aware I believe warrants another look at the product.
