The Vision Gran Turismo programme, which sees real-world car manufacturers create a ‘dream’ vehicle for the gaming series, isn’t just restricted to the virtual world.
Lamborghini’s, for example, is now also available as a Lego kit. McLaren, meanwhile, went all the way and made its VGT into a real-world Solus GT track car. Now, the steering wheel for the Porsche concept has been turned into a functioning sim racing wheel.
The Fanatec CSL Elite Steering Wheel Porsche Vision Gran Turismo was displayed as a close-to-final prototype at the ADAC SimRacing Expo.
Traxion was able to go hands-on with the device which features the Gran Turismo 7-aping squared-off design, including holes within the spokes – something that was an engineering challenge for Fanatec.
In this instance, the Porsche emblem acts as a button, bringing up the tuning menu. The lower right has a small display, which is used when altering settings or viewing information such as gear selected (when not driving the electric VisionGT, of course).
Two firsts for the Corsair-owned company are present. The first is a new material that adorns the rim, a form of synthetic suede. The second is the use of hall effect magnetic shifters for the first time.
Alongside the paddles at the rear, the QR2 Lite is affixed. On the front, there are eight push buttons, four rotary encoders, two multi-position switches and the obligatory Funkyswitch to act as an in-game D-pad.
No pricing and availability are presently available, but Fanatec expects the final details to be locked in ‘soon’.
