The PUBG: Battlegrounds mobile spin-off, PUBG: NEW STATE, will soon be receiving a brand new electric hypercar in the form of the Rimac Nevera.
Yes – we know, this isn’t a sim racing title or even a racing game. But, as fans of cars, which is fuelled by the virtual world, it’s fascinating to see licenced vehicles crop up in more diverse titles.
The 100-player online battle royale shooter, that’s received over 45 million downloads, features driveable vehicles, as does its bigger sibling PUBG: Battlegrounds.
Usually, these are fictional inventions, but soon players will be able to find and try this 1,000bhp+ supercar that does 0-60mph in less than two seconds. It’s so impressive, that the Croatian startup was merged by Porsche with Bugatti to recently form Bugatti Rimac LLC.
Later in January, a time-limited Rimac Crate will be introduced, containing the Nevera in five colour variations: Nevera Blue, Gunpowder Grey, Prism Glow, Sunburst Red and Luminous Gold.
“When they initially told us about their futuristic in-game concept, it was a no-brainer; Rimac Nevera perfectly fits that kind of digital environment,” said Ela Buljat, Senior Marketing Specialist at the Bugatti Rimac company.
This follows on from the all-new Ferrari 296 GTB making its first official gaming appearance not in something like Forza or Gran Turismo, but Fortnite, of course. Before the final production version of the Nevera, the ‘Concept 2’ has appeared in both Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5.
Across the sim racing landscape, it feels like car manufacturers are more open to clever licencing deals and even esports events, but there also seems to be a growing theme of including vehicles in games from different genres.
This is the first and probably last time we’ll mention PUBG: NEW STATE, available for iOS and Android devices, on Traxion.GG, but it almost certainly won’t be the last time a cool new car makes an appearance in releases of this ilk.
