Simucube’s ActivePedal sent waves across the sim racing peripheral market. Here was a pedal that delivered force feedback, emanating noticeable ABS pulsations at home, that could also be digitally adjusted.
Traditionally, if you want to tweak the forces employed to stop a car or the sensation provided to your heel, it means hopping out of a sim rig, replacing elastomers or even springs. Sometimes that even requires the use of tools.
The ActivePedal changed that, with all of the aforementioned adjustments possible via PC software.
One, rather significant, hurdle meant it wasn’t for everyone, however – the price.
At €1,999 per pedal (ex.VAT), it wasn’t cheap.
Now, there is the new Simucube ActivePedal Pro, which slots beneath the original (which will now be entitled the Active Pedal Ultimate at a slightly cheaper price.
At €1,402 per pedal, that isn’t cheap either. But that’s not the point, really. Simucube is always seen as a destination brand, something you build up to. That is still a saving of €597, or ~29%.
Simucube Active Pedal Pro and Ultimate
A noticeable difference between the two models is the maximum input force that can be applied. The new Pro can handle up to 110kg, while the existing model (now Ultimate) has received a software update to handle a mighty 170kg.
The Pro comes with a three-year warranty, the Ultimate five years of coverage. Both can be used as brake, throttle or clutch inputs, but only the Ultimate can be ‘daisy-chained’ to provide power to additional pedals.
