Significant improvements for RaceRoom’s in-sim ranked multiplayer are on the way, with a beta expected “imminently”.

Alongside releasing a highway, a 1v1 track and new drift content, RaceRoom has provided further details about its upcoming online multiplayer overhaul.

Last year, it was announced that the free-to-enter sim racing platform would be supported by the popular third-party competitive racing platform Low Fuel Motorsport.

But, it is also working on a new native ranked system inside the title.

“The project is grown, and what I can say is that the timeframe we have [is that] we will release in Q2 – this will happen,” said Christian Baur, Director of Strategy and Sales at RaceRoom on the latest episode of the outfit’s Grid Talk programme.

“We are getting close to a beta,” said Jean-François Chardon, Head of Studio.

“Beta testers haven’t really had their hands on the new UI for ranked multiplayer, but it is imminent now.”

He went on to confirm that race formats supported include daily events, weekly events and even special events, like the recent RaceRoom 2.4 Hours, which was broadcast live.

“[For special events] we will no longer require you to go through a time attack leaderboard or a Google Form on Discord.

“All the backend is now done. We have the registration system, we have the server spawning system and everything that creates grids and spreads the players by rating is in place.

“The only thing now is the visuals, and we are finishing the last touches of the UI.”

This follows work-in-progress images of the user interface, published in December. All that remains is to imagine ranked racing with classic DTM or Super Touring content. Sign us up, please!
