We first reported that an officially licenced National Hot Rod Association video game was on the way in February, but now we have the first gameplay images, release date and a name.
NHRA: Speed for All will be published by GameMill Entertainment – also known for the Street Outlaws drag racing titles created by Team6 Games. It will launch on 26th August 2022 The first on-track images and a gameplay trailer have been released today, 17th June.
Licenced content
The title is set to feature all five main classes of the real-world NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Mod and Super Modified.
38 drivers will be included according to the online listings. This includes Brittany Force, Antron Brown, Steve Torrence, Tony Schumacher and John Force.
The latter is a 16-time NHRA Funny Car champion, and his car is in the image above – which, while stationary, looks highlight authentic.
Havoline-backed Top Fuel driver Alex Laughlin is also part of the roster, depicted in the main article image.
In-depth career and online leaderboards
The game will feature a single-player career mode that spans several seasons and includes car development, tuning and customisation. Real-world sponsors will feature in this mode, including Goodyear, Summit Racing Equipment and Lucas Oil.
The game will not feature online multiplayer however, online leaderboards will be supported alongside local split-screen action for those on PlayStation and Xbox.
Based purely on the reveal trailer, we can see the option of different camera angles, parachutes to slow down a vehicle at the end of the run and the media information talks of an authentic physics system.
Deluxe and Ultimate Editions
Aside from the standard digital download and physical versions, there will be digital-only Deluxe and Ultimate Editions.
The Deluxe Edition includes a bonus John Force Racing Pack, putting players in control of legendary racer John Force’s team. The Ultimate Edition ups the ante featuring everything in the Deluxe Edition plus the Battle Ready Pack, Moonshot Pack, Electro Blitz Pack and Nitro Fire Pack. Contents are yet to be disclosed.
The base game has a recommended retail price of $49.99, while the Deluxe Edition costs $59.99 and the Ultimate Edition $79.99.
NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series tours the United States of America, and its most recent round was at the New England Dragway. In the Top Fuel class, Mike Salinas took the laurels while in the Funny Car, Tony Stewart Racing driver Matt Hagan took home the team’s third Wally Trophy.
We’ll hopefully receive more details as the NHRA game nears its release. Let us know in the comments below if you’re looking forward to it.
