*Update – the development team behind RENNSPORT has moved to clarify NFT speculation*

Back at the start of April, we reported on RENNSPORT – a new sim set to hit the PC market. Featuring only BMW and Porsche GT3 cars, it seemed to be set up to rival Assetto Corsa Competizione in the GT3 racing game stakes.

With few details on offer at the time, it was unclear how far advanced game development was, or if other brands or licenses would be represented.

Today, (26th May 2022) however, RENNSPORT has released the very first publicly available gameplay footage, showing a Porsche 911 GT3R being put through its paces at the Hockenheimring.

First impressions of the work in progress footage are positive, with the game running smoothly and the car behaving realistically – only the low-resolution rear-view mirror belies the game’s Alpha status.

The flat-six engine note sounds convincingly like a Porsche GT3 car too – despite the heavy-handed reverb effects – so the first glimpse of RENNSPORT in action is an encouraging one.

This weekend, Traxion.GG will be attending the RENNSPORT Summit, where 100 sim racers will get their first hands-on experience with RENNSPORT. Hopefully some of the finer details concerning the sim will also be addressed.

RENNSPORT’s initial pitch was that it would be an esports and modding focused sim. However, concerns were raised among the sim racing community on whether NFTs were to be a focal point of the sim’s “digital asset trading.”

RENNSPORT stated from the outset that “everything will be developed with the requirements of Esports in mind from the very beginning” so the partnership with esports event organiser and producer ESL certainly tallies in this respect.

Two days before the RENNSPORT Summit was due to take place, crack sim racing squad VRS Coanda Simsport announced an alignment with Porsche to create the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team.

With the title’s focus on esports, as well as the heavy presence of Porsche race cars on promotional material, could this indicate Coanda’s involvement in the game’s development in some form?

What are your thoughts on RENNSPORT? Can it challenge Assetto Corsa Competizione as the best GT3 simulator on the market? Let us know in the comments below.
