Next month marks the second anniversary of Need for Speed Unbound from veteran racing game studio Criterion Games. Since its release in November 2022, Unbound’s car roster has expanded, with downloadable content packs and live-service Speed Pass playlists.
However, Speed Pass cars were only available for a limited time until the playlists ended in each Volume update. Thankfully, if you missed any reward cars, the new ‘Need for Speed Unbound Ultimate Collection’ bundles the base game with all premium DLC released post-launch including the following:

Need for Speed Unbound Vol.9 teased, hints at Most Wanted theme
In addition, the Ultimate Collection provides access to the Vol.9 Premium Speed pass when it becomes available. To celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary this year, recent Volume updates have featured cars and events inspired by fan-favourite Need for Speed games.
For example, Vol. 7: Drift & Drag reintroduced drifting and drag racing modes inspired by the Underground games, while the Vol.8: Cops and Racers update paid homage to Hot Pursuit by adding a multiplayer police chase mode.
Need for Speed Unbound’s Vol.9 theme has yet to be announced. However, the Ultimate Collection may offer a clue, as the iconic BMW M3 GTR from 2005’s Need for Speed Most Wanted appears in the artwork along with cars from Vol.7 and Vol.8 and A$AP Rocky’s custom Mercedes-Benz 190E.
If it’s part of Vol.9, this won’t be the first time Most Wanted’s hero car has been playable in Unbounded either, as it featured in Season 1 as a ‘Legacy Edition’ – but it was exclusive to EA Play subscribers.
A release date has not been announced yet, but given that Need for Speed Unbound’s Volume updates are released around every three months, Vol.9 should arrive in November after Vol.8 was released in August.
After two years of post-launch support, Vol.9 is expected to be Need for Speed Unbound’s final update. With the majority of the Criterion team shifting its focus onto the first-person shooter Battlefield series, the franchise’s future is unclear beyond Unbound. As a result, it could be a long wait for a new Need for Speed game.
