On 12th July, the fifth wave of the six-part Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC will drop with an added eight tracks and three new characters to choose from. Wave 5 will include the Feather Cup and Cherry Cup, and inside the former is a brand new course to any Mario Kart title, that being Squeaky Clean Sprint.
During the Nintendo Direct stream on 21st June, the three new characters were confirmed to be Kamek, Wiggler and Petey Piranha. The new Squeaky Clean Sprint, which is set in a gigantic washroom, was also revealed. On Thursday (6th July), the full roster of tracks and the Cups they’ll be a part of were also confirmed.
In terms of tracks, there are three Mario Kart Tour courses being revived for the Switch title, as are two Mario Kart Wii tracks, a Double Dash track in Daisy Cruiser and Sunset Wilds from the Game Boy Advance Mario Kart title.
As for the characters, they are all returning from previous games as well. Petey Piranha was in both Double Dash and Tour. Wiggler was first seen as a playable character in Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS. Kamek, meanwhile, was first spotted as a playable character in Mario Kart Tour.
The Booster Course Pass is now nearly completed, as there are only six projected waves to the DLC. Wave 1 released back on 18th March, 2022, Wave 2 was released on 4th August, 2022 and Wave 3 was launched on 7th December, 2022. In 2023, Wave 4 landed on 9th March, and the sixth and final wave is set to release in December 2023.
The entire DLC comes in one piece and will set you back about £22.49/€24.99/$24.99. It is also included as a perk for those who have an active Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack Membership.
