JDM: Rise of the Scorpion, a free playable prologue of the upcoming JDM: Japanese Drift Master, will be delisted in February before the full release skids onto Steam in March.

Last August saw the release of JDM: Rise of the Scorpion, a prologue previewing the upcoming open-world sideways driving game JDM: Japanese Drift Master.

It introduced players to the lead character Hatori ‘Scorpion’ Hasashi, who has aspirations to become a drift racer in Guntama, the game’s fictional open-world setting inspired by Japanese countryside and mountain roads replete with traffic, day and night cycles and weather. Post-launch updates later added a challenge mode, new cars and online leaderboards.

While it’s currently free to download on Steam, it won’t be available for much longer. Developer Gaming Factory has announced the prologue will be delisted on 3rd February at 3:00pm CET / 2pm GMT / 09:00am ET / 06:00am PT ahead of JDM: Japanese Drift Master’s launch on 26th March.

As for why the prologue is being delisted, Gaming Factory feels it no longer represents the final game. Since the prologue, the graphics engine has been upgraded to Unreal Engine 5, bringing “significantly improving lighting, reflections, shadows, and overall visual quality,” according to a developer blog on Steam, along with performance enhancements.

Alongside the upgraded graphics, the final game will have enhanced driving physics, described by the developer as “the ultimate simcade experience,” and steering wheel support.

“With all the improvements we’ve made, demo-prologue JDM: Rise of the Scorpion no longer reflects the quality of the full game, which will be a significantly enhanced experience in comparison,” said Gaming Factory.
