Jarno Opmeer is expected to join a new F1 Sim Racing team, as the two-time champion has left Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports.
The 24-year-old joined the Brackley squad in 2021, where he promptly won the F1 Esports crown – a back-to-back success, following the 2020 title for Alfa Romeo.
Since then, the Dutch driver – who has competed in Formula 4 and Formula Renault real-world competitions – won two races to finish fifth in 2022 and topped one race to secure fourth in the 2023-34 competition.
“His contribution to the double championship-winning season in 2021 is the absolute highlight,” said Head of Mercedes Esports Oli MacFarlane.
“We wish Jarno all the best for the future and personally I’d like to thank him for his hard work and dedication.”
His destination is not yet known in what appears to be an F1 Sim Racing silly season filled with driver moves. It follows the news that Josh Idowu has left Red Bull Sim Racing and that Alpine’s efforts will now be run by G2 Esports.
