The Welsh F1 esports competition has moved from Red Bull Racing Esports to Alpine’s revived effort.

Josh Idowu joins Alpine’s F1 Sim Racing squad

Josh Idowu has signed a deal to be part of the Alpine Sim Racing squad for the 2024 virtual season.

The 21-year-old burst onto the F1 Esports scene in 2021 for McLaren Shadow as a third driver, following a successful F1 Challengers campaign the year prior. From there, he joined Scuderia AlphaTauri and then for the 2023-2024 F1 Sim Racing competition the main Red Bull Racing squad.

To date, he has secured two pole positions and seven top-five finishes, three of which have been on the rostrum.

Alpine partners with G2 for updated sim racing team

His departure from the Milton Keynes team was announced at the end of June – joined in his departure by Jed Norgrove earlier this week – and has now been followed by news that he will form part of an all-new Alpine line-up.

Alongside the fresh driver talent, the Enstone team has switched management outfits behind the scenes, swapping Race Clutch for G2 Esports in July.

The calendar or format for the next F1 Sim Racing competition – which has switched to in-person LAN format – still needs to be confirmed. The moves frame what seems to be a fluid market, with two-time champion Jarno Opmeer on the move from Mercedes-AMG.
