Alpine partners with G2 for updated sim racing team

Car producer Alpine is freshening up its sim racing outfit, with a new G2 Esports partnership.

Alpine Esports is no more. Kind of. The team still exists, but has been rebranded Alpine Sim Racing – aligning with a move away from the esports lexicon seen across the industry, perhaps most notably with the pinnacle Formula 1 championship renamed as F1 Sim Racing.

The French sportscar manufacturer has historically competed in the single-seater competition alongside Le Mans Virtual Series and has its own Alpine Esports championship held on Assetto Corsa Competition – the most recent edition won by James Baldwin.

The virtual motorsport outfit will now be run by G2 Esports – the German outfit known for its Counter-Strike 2 and League of Legends teams, among others, takes over from the departing Race Clutch.

G2 also has pedigree in sim racing, having its existing squad plus previously enjoying links with Red Bull Racing Esports – before the Milton Keynes team joined forces with Team Redline last year.

“Alpine matches our desire to win, our desire to disrupt and improve every space we operate within, and our desire to elevate racing in all forms, whether in a digital or real-world arena,” said Nathan Tague, Head of Sim Racing at G2 Esports.

“Our track record within F1 Esports is one of success and we are looking forward to returning to the grid alongside Alpine and delivering them a programme to be proud of.”

“It’s a very exciting time for the newly branded Alpine Sim Racing Team,” said Daniel Ritchie, Global Director of Sponsorship Acquisition, at Alpine.

“This new collaboration with G2 symbolizes a new era and new hope where combined our focus will be on constant progress, a shift in priorities and vision of the past, our aim is to project Alpine Sim Racing into championship contention in the coming years”

Driver line-ups and any competitions entered outside of F1 are yet to be confirmed.
