Update: iRacing’s off-road racer ExoCross releases 23rd July

The space-set buggy-based driving game is aiming to hit PC, PlayStation and Xbox next month, as it shapes up for release.

iRacing’s off-road racer ExoCross set for July release

ExoCross, a previously independent offroad driving game picked up by iRacing two-and-a-half years ago, is close to release. So close, in fact, that 23rd July 2024 has been announced as a launch date.

The simulation platform’s Executive Vice President Steve Myers announced the date on social media, where he also confirmed that the game has been submitted to Sony for approval, with Microsoft set to receive the Xbox version later today (27th June).

What was formerly known as DRAG Outer Zone was picked up by the Massachusetts-based sim racing veterans in December 2021. Since then, the Orontes Games team – who created not just the game but a custom game engine – has been working on an evolution.

That step change is ExoCross, which will include a single-player championship mode and a unique online multiplayer system – both of which Traxion tested recently. We found the visuals (on PC) of the beta build to be mightily impressive, the vehicle handling demanding and the lure of leaderboard times strong.

It will be released across PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. No pricing information is presently available.

Update 17/07/2024 – Just for the avoidance of doubt, ExoCross has been cleared by Sony and Microsoft submission processes and is locked in for a 23rd July 2024 release, according to Myers:

“ExoCross has been certified on all platforms and will officially come out a week from today (7/23)!”
