ExoCross, the sci-fi-inspired racing game published by sim racing giants iRacing, has been released today (23rd of July 2024) for both PlayStation and PC.
As we revealed last week, the game’s release date was slated for the 23rd of July, but its Xbox release has been delayed due to last week’s global IT outage. The downtime, caused by a borked Microsoft Windows update from cyber security firm CrowdStrike, has had huge knock-on effects worldwide, with ExoCross’s Xbox release also falling victim.
iRacing’s Executive Vice President Steve Myers took to X to explain the issue, stating that the Xbox release would be delayed by ‘a few days,’ so hopefully it will be released shortly, with DRAG-owning players able to unlock the full release version of ExoCross at no extra charge.
ExoCross started life as DRAG Outer Zone by Orontes Games, an indie developer that developed the game and a proprietary game engine featuring deformable terrain and ‘4-way Contact Patch Traction technology.’
iRacing liked the concept so much that it purchased Orontes and DRAG in December 2021, focusing on bringing the game to a saleable level replete with single-player campaign mode.
