Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital and mastermind behind the Gran Turismo series, has taken to the PlayStation Blog this morning (25th March) to announce all Gran Turismo 7 players will receive a bonus pay-out of 1 million in-game Credits.

The reason behind the cash injection is to apologise for the server outage problems we reported on last week, where GT7 servers went down for nearly 33 hours, rendering most of the game unplayable for its entire fanbase.

When the game returned, many events were altered to reduce the number of Credits that could be earned from them. For example, pre 1.08 update users could continuously complete the Fishermans Ranch / Dirt Champions events in a Gr.B car, thereby earning 97,500 Credits with a Clean Race Bonus for a single lap race.

This caused more furore as negative feelings towards the perceived grind of GT7’s game economy came into sharp focus, directly leading to our ‘The quickest ways to earn credits in Gran Turismo 7’ guide.

Yamauchi explained: “The patch update previously deployed was intended to rectify an issue with inconsistent reward payouts within a part of the World Circuit Events. But, to re-establish the intended equilibrium and provide more accurate rewards based on time investment and completion, it was necessary to recalculate the rewards system as a whole.”

So, in future it looks as though GT7 players will receive bigger payouts across many events, starting with a patch at the beginning of April.

Also set to be changed is the credit cap. Players can only earn up to 20 million Credits at any one time just now, but this will be extended to 100 million post-April update. Good news considering the combined total cost of Legend Cars can be over 45 million Credits…

Not cheap!

There are a couple of exceptions to the free 1 million Credit giveaway, however. Firstly, it only applies if you owned a copy of GT7 before the time of the blog post this morning (8 am GMT). And secondly, players have to log into GT7 between Friday 25th March at 5 pm JST/8 am GMT/1 am PDT and Monday, April 25 at 5 pm JST/8 am GMT/1 am PDT.
