Following a teaser earlier in the week, the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo has been unveiled during the 2022 World Finals virtual motorsport event.
Showcased in a striking liquid silver colour, the concept model has been designed for the Gran Turismo 7 video game and will be available to players in December.
“The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo features a new [design] language that we will showcase for future years,” said Ferrari’s Design Director, Flavio Manzoni to Traxion.GG.
“You will want to caress it.”
The striking design includes a canopy, which opens to home a single driver, who would sit in a formula-style position. Steering is in theory steer-by-wire, but like a simulator, Ferrari would use haptic force feedback through the wheel. That makes it a video game car inspired by video game technology – it’s all very meta.
“[It was a] very long design process that started with several 3D models. But finally, we converge on the final solution that we believe to represent exactly what we meant,” continued Manzoni.
“The representation of the new futuristic design, this is the poetry of Ferrari.”
The mid-engine fictional hypercar uses a tuned variation on the F154 V6 turbo hybrid powertrain used in the road-going 296 GTB, although the company was not keen to elaborate further. That means it’s all-wheel-drive, and in-game during a short media demonstration, the engine sound has been turned up to 11.
The 1356cv (1338 hp) mono-seater screams down the Curva del Serragilo at Monza.
It utilises in-game aerodynamic features seen elsewhere in the Ferrari line-up but turned up to extremes. The front features an S-duct, there are wheel arch air outlets and a flat floor made from carbon fibre.
“It’s been several years since I went to Maranello to talk about this project,” said game producer, Kazunori Yamauchi.
“It’s really a dream come true.”
