The latest official Formula 1 driving game, EA SPORTS F1 22, has entered the top of the UK physical media sales charts at the top of the rostrum.
Releasing in physical form for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on Friday 1st July, its one day of sales was enough to top the table weekend ending 2nd July.
It raced ahead (sorry) of PlayStation-exclusive Horizon Forbidden West and Nintendo’s Switch Sports.
When F1 2021 launched at a similar time last year, it didn’t reach the top spot until its second week on sale, after The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD initially bested the sales figures. In a February earnings call, publisher Electronic Arts stated that sales of F1 2021 were “above expectations.”
F1 22 isn’t the only driving title selling well in the UK, with Gran Turismo 7 placed in 12th, having never been outside of the top 40 since its release earlier this year, and of course, perennial best-seller Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in was in eight.
Somewhat surprisingly, GRID Legends re-entered the sales ranking, after a somewhat lukewarm launch. A demolition derby-themed DLC pack featuring Ncuti Gatwa was released in June, the first of four additional updates.
