F1 2021 game tops UK physical sales charts

The F1 2021 game has reached the top of the UK video game sales charts in its second week on sale.

Releasing 16th July for the regular edition, the game originally entered the charts at number two, behind The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch – itself releasing on the same day.

The GfK Entertainment Software Charts tracks physical game sales in the UK. It seems that demand for the first F1 game to be released by Codemasters under EA ownership has continued to be strong after its launch.

GamesIndustry.biz reported last week, initial sales were split 66% PlayStation (34% PS4, 32% PS5) and 34% Xbox.

Available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series, it was the sales leader for the week ending 24th July 2021 and was one of only two dedicated racing games in the 40. The other was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

In our review, we said: “The big new features are all sure-fire hits. Braking Point has a better plot than most summer blockbuster movies, the facelifted practice sessions, car development and two-player Driver Career add fresh incentive to dip back in.”

We also have a beginner’s tips and tricks guide and Podium Pass help for those who are new to the series this year, as real-life Formula 1 witnesses a gigantic battle for the championship. We’ll have more on F1 2021 when the new tracks and F2 season updates land.
