Euro Truck Simulator 2’s V1.60 Open Beta includes updated Volvo FH Series 6 and new materials system

A new Open Beta is available to try in Euro Truck Simulator 2 now, and it includes several new updates for SCS Software’s driving and business sim.

Recent ETS 2 updates have felt light on content, with the feeling that the Czech studio is preparing the bedrock of the game’s upcoming console conversions, something the developer ranks as a ‘superhuman task’ no less.

This theme continues in V1.60, with an expanded rest mechanic, an updated game radio, and an improved materials system, alongside several other tweaks outlined below.

Improved materials and light systems

The improved materials system focuses on vehicle interiors, improving lighting and the overall visual quality of leather, cloth, plastic and metal.

Inspired by the larger variety of materials found in sister title American Truck Simulator’s Road Trip mode, which focuses on cars and pickup trucks, uses dynamic cube maps to provide more natural lighting. This arrives with a subtle overall rebalancing to the game’s lighting system.

The new materials system is being rolled out initially on the DAF NGD and MAN TG3 TGX trucks, but will be added to more models at a later date.

Volvo FH Series 6 Update

The Volvo FH Series 6 truck gets some love for V1.60, with extra aerodynamic parts now available. New roof deflectors are now attainable for the Sleeper Cab, Globetrotter, and Globetrotter XL cab variants of the Swedish machine, with a new black A-Pillar trim available across the full Series 6 range.

Job details widget and expanded rest mechanic

The job details widget has been updated to make it easier to read job information and can be accessed through the Widget Options menu by pressing the F6 key.

The game’s fatigue system is now also split into Rest State and Mandatory Break factors. Driving for too long depletes the rest state bar, while driving for 10 hours straight will require a mandatory nine-hour break.

Game Radio

There are now five radio stations to choose from in-game: Rust FM, Escape, PUMP IT!, Pop Gear and Roadio. Each offers a different aural experience, with Escape offering the only streamer-friendly soundscape for now.

To play ETS 2’s v1.60 Open Beta, right-click on the game icon in your Steam Library, select ‘Properties’, then ‘Betas’ and pick the ‘Public Beta’ option.
