Disney Speedstorm, the superlative cartoony kart racer, entered Early Access on the 18th of April this year, with promises that it would become a fully-fledged free-to-play effort with optional DLC packs at some point in the future.
Finally, developer Gameloft has announced that its game will be entirely free-to-play on PC and consoles from the 28th of September 2023, allowing players to take control and race against classic Disney and Pixar characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Woody from Toy Story.
In our Early Access review, we stated that Disney Speedstorm was a “tumultuous, rampantly playable kart racer that throws action at you with a barrage of power-ups, power drifts and power remixes of classic Disney music,” awarding it our coveted “Buy Now” verdict.
However, this was caveated by the prevalence of loot boxes and in-game currency, which ultimately didn’t detract from the enjoyable racing game underneath.
The team behind Disney Speedstorm has stated that the three paid-for tiers of Founder Packs will still be available to purchase right up until the game goes free-to-play, offering exclusive in-game items.
Will you be picking up Disney Speedstorm once it goes free-to-play?
