'Digigold' by 'Reds' announced as Hot Wheels Unleashed Design Battle winner

Remember that contest that was announced back in January for Hot Wheels Unleashed? Designers were asked to open up the Hot Wheels Unleashed Livery Editor and come up with a design on the Rodger Dodger model. The winner would not only get their design in the game, but also in the real world.

The contest lasted from 14th January to 14th February. That contest has now come to a close, and the design titled ‘Digigold’ by ‘Reds’ was chosen as the winner.

The panel of Ted Wu (Vice President and Global Head of Vehicle Design, Mattel), Bryan Benedict (Director of Product Design, Mattel), Dmitriy Shakhmatov (Manager of Product Design, Mattel) and Jerry Thienprasiddhi (Principal Graphic Designer, Mattel) chose ‘Digigold’ out of more than 10,000 submissions.

This particular design is a mainly white base with metallic gold digital shapes distributed on the body. The Rodger Dodger’s engine and muffler are also metallic gold, and some black digital shapes can also be found complimenting the white and gold. There’s also a number 73 towards the front tires with a gold Hot Wheels logo just underneath.

This design will be printed on the real Rodger Dodger 1:64-scale diecast model and sold globally starting in December 2022. All in all, a pretty neat deal for ‘Reds’ who put the design together.

We would have loved to have seen a Rodger Dodger colored in pink win, but alas. Congratulations to ‘Reds’ and better luck next time to those who competed.
