In December, last year, soft-body physics simulation BeamNG added a hidden rally mode.
The work-in-progress feature for the work-in-progress platform, dubbed ‘experimental’ is hidden in plain sight. A greyed-out rally mode option is available if you click it enough times.
Within there sit three stages – two asphalt, one gravel – and a rudimentary pacenote system that omits audio cues for now.

This mode could expand, with public acknowledgement of the feature in a recent social media post.
This usually signals the start of a teaser campaign ahead of a notable game update and this time we can see timing equipment associated with rallying – a sport ran against the clock.
“⏰[time] waits for nobody – except that one guy who’s still in neutral, #TeaserTuesday” reads the associated caption.
“BeamNG seems like a good fit for rally: it has a comprehensive damage model, varied terrain, decent car handling and a huge modding community,” we recently said upon testing 2024’s 0.34 update.
There’s obvious potential, let’s see if the next update edges things towards realising it.
