Marco Massarutto and Stefano Casillo are back working together, as the latter rejoins Assetto Corsa EVO developer Kunos Simulazioni at a pivotal time.

The duo co-founded the simulation driving outfit, creating the likes of netKar Pro, Ferrari Virtual Academy and perhaps most notably, Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Casillo was the studio’s Lead Programmer from late 2004 until just over four years ago, a period including the sale of Kunos to Digital Bros. in March 2017 for €4.3 million.

The Italian left the company in April 2020 with “no friction and no bad feeling coming from my decision.”

“At a certain point I started to feel like I had nothing more to give to the sim racing genre and it was time for me to go look for new inspirations,” he said at the time.

His next move was to found (and be Lead Programmer at) Jaxx Vane Studio, which created the Hydrofoil Generation sailing simulation. It launched initially into early access, before hitting a full ‘Version 1.0’ release in November 2023 for PC via Steam.

Casillo’s new role at Kunos is of Chief Technology Officer, according to LinkedIn, starting this month.

It comes at a time when Senior Global Brand Manager for the series, Nick Turner, departs publisher 505 Games. 505 was unable to comment at the time of publication.

It follows the early access release of the team’s latest game, Assetto Corsa EVO, in January, with a roadmap of updates, additional features and content expected across 2025.
