The Ferrari 288 GTO will be part of a six-car (and one track) Assetto Corsa EVO update.

Version 0.6 will, as previously confirmed, include the current Ferrari 296 GT3 and the Sebring venue. Now we know they will be joined by the first of the six most-prominent mainline Ferrari supercars.

Commonly misinterpreted as built for the Group B (circuit racing) ruleset – ‘O’ standing for Omologata doesn’t help things – it was a turbocharged mid-engine beast. It wasn’t until a later, limited production run, Evoluzione, that was actually designed for competition.

295bhp sounds puny by today’s standards, but in the context of the mid-1980s and the 1,160 kg (dry) weight, it delivered stratospheric performance. It also started a bloodline that led to the F40, F50, Enzo, LaFerrari and F80.

“Content-wise [0.6] will be more racing orientated, with more racing cars than 0.5,” said developer Kunos Simulazioni’s Co-Founder and Executive Manager, Marco Massarutto, to Traxion recently.
