Unlike the upcoming sim racing title Assetto Corsa EVO, which isn’t announcing what time it will land or its price ahead of time, Tokyo Xtreme Racer has issued the important details a week out.
The revival of a much-loved Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 street racing series by Genki will arrive on PC initially, in a work-in-progress early access form, on 23rd January 2025.
Now, however, the price has been confirmed at $29.99.
Naturally, like other early access titles, those who purchase the title at its initial launch will be leant on to provide feedback in the unfinished build, but will at least receive the final version for no further charge.
Console versions have not yet been discussed for the latest Tokyo Xtreme Racer (called Shutokō Battle in Japan), although a statement did read that PC would be “first” hinting at future platforms later.
The time it releases will be 12 am (midnight) PT on the 23rd, which is also 5 pm JST. We estimate that 8 am UTC, 9 am CET and 3 am ET.
“Amidst the large support for this project, we are very excited and anxious at the same time,” Genki said in a producer letter shared on X, formerly Twitter.
“With only one week left until the release of early access, all of us at Genki are making final adjustments so that we can deliver a game that will meet your expectations.
“Please stay tuned for future updates for Tokyo Xtreme Racer. Until then, we’ll see you on the Shuto Expressway!”
The game will feature ‘over 50’ licenced cars (presumably including modified versions within that total number), rivals, street racing and real-world visual customisation options.
