Fanatec unveils new load cell-based ClubSport Handbrake V2 – Updated

Fanatec has showcased its brand-new ClubSport Handbrake V2 at the ADAC SimRacing Expo, offering a load cell-based alternative to its previous handbrakes.

Fanatec unveils new load cell-based ClubSport Handbrake V2

As part of Fanatec’s resurgence since its acquisition by Corsair last month, the Landshut-based sim racing peripheral manufacturer has unveiled several new products.

One of these, showcased at this weekend’s ADAC SimRacing Expo, is its new ClubSport Handbrake V2.

Set to replace the outgoing V1.5, which itself is an evolution of the V1, the V2 will feature a pressure-based system for the very first time.

So, this means Fanatec will be directly competing with premium load ell handbrake offerings from the likes of Heusinkveld and Sim-Lab, although there’s no word on its price point just yet.

Load cell handbrakes offer a more consistent and reliable way to encourage your virtual steed into a slide, enabling sim racers to modulate their inputs better, something I recently rediscovered during the Traxion community rally.

Although potentiometer-based handbrakes tend to be cheaper, the uplift in cost tends to be worth it for the increased feel a load cell system provides.

The ClubSport Handbrake features a chunky new design, with adjustable preload, a quick-release spacer and the ability to mount it vertically or horizontally, with more features to be announced shortly.

The rubberised handle covering can also be removed for those drivers who prefer the feel of bare metal in their hands (and who really want to get blisters).

  1. I sincerely hope this is still Fanatec from a quality perspective, since the acquisition they’re really cranking out the new products.

    Very cautiously optimistic

    1. It is 100% guaranteed that these products have been sitting in development/release hell for years at this point. Just look at how long it took for the already complete and ready to go Bentley wheel to come on sale.

I wouldn’t be remotely surprised to find another four or five products slated for release over the next 6 months that could have been released over a year ago. I’ve heard rumour of a sequential shifter, an upgraded H-Pattern shifter, and actual physical evidence of a shaft extension for the original CSL DD to go with the one they released for the fancier DD+.

The only reason we’re getting anything new right now is thanks to Corsair, and I for one am genuinely looking forward to seeing what else was being kept in a drawer somewhere in the Fanatec offices,
