The official British Touring Car Championship licence agreement within rFactor 2 is set to be utilised once more, with the announcement that the Honda Civic Type R will be available sometime in February 2023.

The BTCC iteration of the popular hot hatchback is based on the FK8 model and has been used in the championship since 2018.

Last season, the Team Dynamics-run Halfords Racing with Cataclean team fielded three-time champion Gordon Shedden and Daniel Rowbottom. Three other Civics were also used, this time by Rich Energy BTC Racing, with Jason Plato, Josh Cook and Jade Edwards behind the wheel.

It’s these 2022 livery designs used in the reveal trailer, and rFactor 2 is also expected to implement the hybrid system too this year.

Of note, in the real-world, the two Halfords cars use a Neil Brown Engineering-prepped Honda engine, whereas BTC Racing use an M-Sport-derived TOCA unit. It’s yet to be confirmed if the two different engines will be simulated within rFactor 2.

Pricing and the exact release date are yet to be announced. Prior BTCC cars – the Toyota Corolla, Infiniti Q50, Ford Focus ST, Hyundai i30N and BMW 330 are already available – cost £4.31/$4.99. Only the Cupra Leon remains as a contemporary BTCC car currently not available.

The Civic will launch alongside the Long Beach circuit as paid DLC, while the ability to race online against people without having to own all of the content used by others on the server will also arrive.
