It’s a brand new year to go with Gran Turismo 7’s latest Sport Mode ranked online racing playlist.

Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, wc 2nd January 2023 - Customer racing

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2023, and we’re fast approaching one year of live service racing game title, Gran Turismo 7.

Far from taking a break from the festive period, the ranked Daily Race playlist has continued to be updated, with a Boxing Day refresh last week and a New Year’s Day change just one day after the sound of Auld Lang Syne has faded.

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, wc 2nd January 2023

As a reminder, Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances.

Your results in Race A will not affect Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR), so feel free to race as hard as you like, but Race B and Race C results do.

RACE A

Mazda Roadster NRA Gran Turismo 7

One of my favourite race types within Gran Turismo 7, and several previous GT games, is slow cars around the tight, twisty and narrow Tsukuba.

This week, it’s paired with the Mazda Roadster (read MX-5) NR-A. This is a race-modified sports car, but it’s slow (only 130bhp) and light (only 1,010kgs), ideal for beginner customers in Japan.

A fizzy 1.5-litre engine, a manual six-speed gearbox, rear-wheel drive and a roll cage – a classic recipe.

There are few clear overtaking opportunities here, well not without contact or unless you’re already clearly alongside, so get that qualifying time as low as possible.

Recommended car: Mazda Roadster NR-A (ND) ’22 (Brand Central, 31,000 Credits or free rental)

Race B

Nissan GTR Watkins Glen, Gran Turismo 7

While Road Atlanta has occupied most of my time recently, thanks to its excellent recreation, let’s not forget Watkins Glen can be as much fun too.

The week’s Race B is a timely reminder that Gran Turismo players have been spoilt with epic USA-based circuits of late.

This time, it’s the full ‘Long Course’ and in rapid Gr.4 cars with no tyre wear or strategy. Hard-charing, kerb-hopping and panel-rubbing racing will ensue. The Nissan looks to be the go here.

Recommended car: Nissan GT-R Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C

Suzuki Vision Gran Turismo Bathurst

This is more like it!

Mount Panorama, Bathurst, Australia. One of the greatest, and toughest, circuits in the world.

Gr.3 cars, the most ubiquitous racing-modified class in not just Gran Turismo 7, but all of sim racing.

10 laps with some aggressive tyre wear and a requirement to use both hard and medium compound rubber during the race, and thus a mandatory pitstop.

More of this, please, Polyphony Digital.

Recommended car: Suzuki VGT Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)

Lap Time Challenge

Gran Turismo 7's Lap Time Challenge, 5th-19th January: Sardinian Subaru

This fortnight’s Lap Time Challenge features Gr.4 cars at Sardegna’s Road Track C layout.

As has been the case with most of GT7’s Gr.4 Daily Races, the Subaru WRX is head and shoulders above the competition, making it our top pick to win you the most Credits.

A new Lap Time Challenge will become available on the 19th January 2023 at 7 am GMT.

Recommended car: Subaru WRX Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits)
