The PlayStation and Xbox versions of Dakar Desert Rally have received their much-anticipated Extended Map DLC update, arriving alongside the game’s v1.5 update.
The official game of the Dakar Rally arrived early in October with a post-launch development road map, promising more routes, better wheel support and a replay and photo mode.
The PC version received its Extended Map DLC update on the 25th of October, with wheel support for popular Fanatec, Thrustmaster and Logitech models also added.
Dakar Desert Rally Extended Map DLC for console
The Saudi Arabia Extended Map pack allows players to tackle Dakar stages from the 2020, 2021 and 2022 events, providing a more realistic way of competing compared to the game’s career mode.
Players can race on each year’s 12 stages consecutively, with the fastest driver overall taking the win, just like the real Dakar. Players can access this feature via Free Mode, then Custom Play and the events will be selectable on the map.
More console updates are promised in the next few weeks.
Dakar Desert Rally v1.5 update for PC
Dakar Desert Rally has also received its v1.5 update for the Steam version of the game, adding a steering wheel angle detection feature and enhancing the speed and accuracy of your in-game navigator’s calls.
Much to the relief of players, the dreaded ‘Top 8’ rule has been removed from the Professional and Simulation modes, negating the need to finish inside the top eight of an event to progress.
As a bonus, seven new Sport and seven new Professional events also make their way to the game, totalling 35 stages. These are currently unavailable for the console version.
In terms of graphics enhancements, NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Super Sampling 3 (DLSS) has been implemented, cleverly enhancing the smoothness of the game by adding extra frames via interpolation.
DLSS3 is only compatible with NVIDIA’s forthcoming GeForce RTX 4000 series of graphics cards for the moment, but future applications in older cards may become available (albeit with reduced performance benefits).
As a special bonus for PC users, Dakar Desert Rally has been added to the Epic Game Store, including the most up-to-date features from v1.5. Multiplayer crossplay with Steam users has also been implemented.
