Sony has today released details and images of the successor to their PlayStation VR (PSVR) system, the PlayStation VR2.
Designed to mimic the look of a white PS5 console, the PS VR2 boasts “stunning visual fidelity in 4K HDR” according to a post on PlayStation.Blog by Hideaki Nishino – Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony.
The headset features the same headband-style fastening system as the original PS VR, and Sony have focused on comfort – a task made more difficult by the breadth of its player base. As a result, Sony added a vent hole in the headset in an effort to keep users’ heads cool and help de-fog the lenses.
Much like the extremely popular Oculus Quest 2 VR headset, the PS VR2 will also feature a lens adjustment dial to move the lenses closer or further apart – vital to achieving the sharpest image in both eyes.
The headset plugs into the PS5 via single cable and features twin PS VR2 Sense controllers. Interestingly, the headset itself offers haptic feedback thanks to a motor within the unit. PS VR users will be glad to hear the PlayStation Camera has been done away with, so VR is achievable with just the headset and controllers.
