I would be willing to wager that a Daihatsu Copen has never been on the Goodwood Motor Circuit before. The diminutive folding-hardtop convertible from the early noughties is a real curio, and here in its 659cc guise, poses zero through to any land speed records.
It’s hard to think of a less appropriate car for the seeping corners of the 73-year-old venue. But, thanks to Gran Turismo Sport, here we are; a 12 –car grid on ranked drivers driving this car and track combination online. Heh.
If that’s not your cup of tea, then there are two races on this week’s menu that feature more suitable steeds. Here’s the line-up for the week commencing 6th September 2021.
I feel like we’ve already covered the majority of Race A already in this post – Daihatsus around Goodwood.
What I didn’t mention in the article introduction is that the combination works. Kind of.
So long as you don’t lose the pack, this is one tight race with everyone in a bunch, rubbing for the lead. If you’re looking for some simple, quick, fun, don’t overlook this combination.
Race B reverts back to type, with four laps in any Gr.4 car of your choice. The venue is the ‘short’ variant of the Fuji International Speedway. That means you’ll almost certainly forget that the hairpin isn’t there, brake too hard on lap one and cause a massive pileup. You have been warned…
For the strategy-focused event this week, Race C, you have our favourite track in GT Sport – Autodrome Lago Maggiore GP. Plus, the favoured GR.3 category and a free pick from your garage. Happy days.
It’s not quite a free-for-all, however, as there is 6x tyre wear, 2x fuel usage and the requirement to use both the medium and soft compounds tyres at some point in the race.
Full details of each race are below, and the playlist will next reset on Monday 13th September 2021. All this arrives after the announcement that Gran Turismo 7 will indeed be coming to PS4 alongside PS5, and there will be an upgrade path.
Will we hear more about GT7 soon? Fingers crossed…
