Those who have scored a PS5 – good news, Gran Turismo 7 looks set to be as pretty as ever. But, for those who haven’t been able to get their hands on a new console yet, GT7 is also coming to PS4.
The news comes in light of the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West release. The PlayStation Studios open-world action RPG will be released on 18th February 2022 on both PS4 and PS5. After some confusion, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan clarified on the PlayStation Blog that there will be a PS5 upgrade path for those who purchase the PS4 release.

“Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.
“I also want to confirm today that moving forward, PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 and PS5) – both digital and physical – will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 and PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.”
There we go then, from the horse’s mouth. Polyphony Digital’s next racing game is a cross-gen release and if you buy the PS4 version, you can upgrade to the PS5 version at a later date for $10/£9. This is the same process as the recent PlayStation exclusive Ghost of Tsushima, where an upgrade from PS4 Director’s Cut to PS5 Director’s Cut is also $10/£9.
