Developer 34BigThings has released what it’s calling ‘the final lap’ for the futuristic anti-grav racer Redout 2.

Released back in June 2022, Redout 2 scratched the itch for fans of WipEout-style racing games, boasting colourful visuals and speedy gameplay. Development has largely been dormant since 2024, however, recent activity saw an update drop in September, followed by another this month, which added Spectator Mode.

Now, the Italian studio has unveiled the final Redout 2 update, with a new ‘Rush’ game mode as the headliner.

Final Redout 2 update released, adds a new game mode

Rush (and Boss Rush) is an elimination-style mode where the last racer to finish is eliminated until only one winner remains. This takes place over a series of races, with the starting grid following the finishing positions of the previous encounter.

Those ousted from the game can then enter Spectator mode for the remainder of the contest. Rush mode is only available in private lobbies.

766 more ship parts have also been added for players to use, and all are pre-unlocked. 34BigThings has also increased the top speed of all ships by ‘around 3%’ (as if they weren’t fast enough as it is), and fixed several bugs.

Redout 2 final update changelog

New game mode – Rush!

We love the ideas you come up with as a community, especially if it comes to custom event rulesets. One of our programmers liked the “Burnout” tournament mechanics so much that he just decided in his spare time to implement it as a whole new game mode!

Introducing: “Rush” and “Boss Rush” – A series of races on your selected tracks (or environments), drawn at random. The last racer of each race is eliminated until only one remains. After the first race, the starting grid follows the final rank of the previous one.

The group leader selects a deck of tracks, creating a pool that the game will randomly draw from for the duration of the event. After playing one track, it is removed from the pool until no tracks remain. Then, the pool gets reshuffled. Eliminated Racers become Spectators (outside of the standard Spectator limit) and can watch the rest of the event unfold from the front-row seats!

These gamemodes are available in private lobbies only.

General

  • Unlocked 766 more aesthetic parts for all ships in total. You can find all of them in the garage from the get-go. It took us way too long to sort out the logistics of this, but I mean… There are a lot of parts!
  • “Suspend when Unfocused” now also mutes all game sounds and pauses played cutscenes. Shhh…
  • Fixed held boost input sometimes not activating after using a Rewind.
  • Added a link to our Discord in the Main Menu to let you connect with our community Faster Than Ever!
  • Added possibility of creating groups while already being in a public online lobby. No need to leave to invite friends anymore!
  • Removed “Privacy and Data Collection” and third-party EULA agreements front the game because we no longer collect any data outside of one covered by platform EULAs.
  • Added the possibility of replaying Environment and Ship introduction cutscenes, in Arcade gamemode options and during prerace, respectively. We put an insane amount of time, effort and love into those… And then let you watch them only once!
  • Grounded flying speed pads on Fuji and Mariana Trench environments.
  • Polished polish translation and fixed its wrong ordinal numbers’ punctuation. Now polish is polished. Ostatnio jak sprawdzałem, Merkury nie był księżycem. Pierogi też są dobre.

Gameplay

  • Increased base top speed of all ships by around 3%. Some could dare to say, you can now be… Faster Than Ever!
  • Increased speed gain on negative-G track sections (while providing correct pitch down input, of course).

Multiplayer

  • Improved general multiplayer stability.
  • Fixed first race in a public online lobby always being 1-lap long.
  • Fixed lobbies being created with less than two racers. One racer races didn’t feel fair to us.
  • Fixed race countdown sound effects playing for the second time for lobby clients.
  • Fixed possibility of starting a race while still looking at the track from prerace cameras.
  • Group Leader can be now a Spectator, but only in Private matches.
  • Fixed groups sometimes being destroyed on return to the menu from online races. Now friends can stay friends.
  • Fixed a softlock for group clients if the leader lost connection to a public lobby host.

Spectator

  • Raised privileges of cameramen to allow them to automatically use Follow-Offset cameras randomly in places where standard auto-broadcast used to just point at a wall.
  • Improved camera stability in Spline mode with Look-At enabled on ship closeups.
  • Fixed jittering field of view in Follow mode after a race restart.
  • Fixed Speed and Roll visual bars not showing up after race restart in Arcade Spectator.
  • Spline Look-At has now a “Reset” button. This feature puts the camera 30 meters behind the focused ship.
  • Raised maximum camera speed for Spline and Free modes.
  • Spectators now can see the track name and its direction before the start of the race, as well as in the Pause Menu.
  • Improved movement and rotation of the Free camera while tracking players.

UI

  • Fixed menu appearance of groups larger than 12.
  • Fixed sorting spectators and racers in the online multiplayer player list.
  • Moved the cutscene subtitles above the black bar to avoid clipping with the “Skip” button.

Audio

  • Fixed environmental sounds not playing on the first loop of pre-race cinematic cameras showcasing the environment.
  • Fixed race music not starting properly after quitting from a previous event during a big jump.
  • Fixed big jump windup sound effect continuing to play in the Main Menu after quitting a multiplayer game at a specific point.

Known Issues

  • Skill 😛
  • Some game localizations have minor text clipping.
  • Lunare is still not the best team in the game…
  • Many very minor issues that bother us that you may or may not have ever heard about.
  • This is the last update. We’re aware. We’re not okay about it either. We hope therapy will help us all.
  • Or maybe we’ll do another one at some point, who knows?
