Just one year on from its shock exit at the Esports World Cup without even reaching the final, Porsche Coanda retain the Rennsport R1 crown, headed by the extraordinary pace of Charlie Collins.

After the regular season, points for the six finalist teams were adjusted with the leading TC Esports just three points ahead of Porsche Coanda before the final. It was Porsche Coanda who seemed to get off to the best start, as it seemed to have taken a one-two in the first qualifying session.

However, after multiple laps from qualifying had been deleted for track limits, Caique Oliveira took the start from first, with Collins way back in the pack. The first chicane at Monza was as chaotic as one would expect, with Oliveira hit by his BS+ Competition teammate Robbie Stapleford sending both down the order.

Josh Rogers came through to lead, while Collins battled down the order with Marcell Csincsik, a battle that the Hungarian came off worse in. Collins himself would spin on lap seven, after contact with Mortiz Lohner of MOUZ.

But out front Rogers took the win, putting Porsche Coanda six points clear of TCE after just one race. They locked out the front row at Spa for race two as well, another race with a very busy start.

Jack Keithley, potentially in an act of desperation for TCE, dived down the inside at T1 on lap one, launching a domino effect that eventually spun his teammate. At the front, Rogers fought off Oliveira to retain the Porsche Coanda one-two, which put the reigning champions just three points off the all-important Finalist Mode.

Charlie Collins’ pole and win at Daytona would secure more than enough points, while TCE continued to struggle and remained 19 points away going into race four, with BS+ Competition not far behind them.

Another pole from Collins at the day’s second visit to Monza took Porsche Coanda to the brink, but it’s always hard to secure a victory while just one team are in Finalist Mode, given the target on their back it comes with.

Josh Rogers couldn’t do much to help his teammate either, as he was caught in the turn one incident, though it did allow just three drivers to break free at the front, reducing Collins’ opponents for the next nine laps.

Oliveira was one of those, but he soon lost touch, and it was down to Marcell Csincsik to beat Collins and force another race.

The gap went out to a second by lap four, but the Hungarian reeled the gap back in at the venue he won the very first R1 title in 2023. He attempted a move to the outside of the second chicane, but Collins fought him off before a half spin effectively sealed the deal.

Porsche Coanda was able to retain its R1 crown after a difficult start to the online campaign, even coming into the LAN final behind TC Esports. But it was ruthless in Frankfurt, especially Charlie Collins, who barely put a foot wrong all day.
