New Project Motor Racing patch paves the way for future VR and triple screen support

  • New PMR update said to improve overall game stability and reduce CPU loads
  • Patch offers ‘stronger technical foundation for future multi-view features such as VR and triple-screen support’

Project Motor Racing has bounced back from reimplementing its Super GT-themed DLC pack by rolling out a new game update.

The new patch (V2.0.0.3) focuses on implementing Multi-Draw Indirect (MDI). According to developer Straight4 Studios, this improves the way its game engine renders complex scenes.

Essentially, this transfers ‘call generation and visibility decisions’ from the CPU (many PMR players, especially on PC, have complained about CPU bottlenecking) to the graphics card. This should, according to Straight4, help alleviate graphical stuttering issues and improve overall game stability.

Further rendering tweaks are said to improve frame rates, offering a ‘stronger technical foundation for future multi-view features such as VR and triple-screen support’. Triple-screen and VR support are crucial for a significant minority of PMR players, although Straight4 has yet to provide a timeline for their inclusion.

Other changes

The game’s anti-cheat system has been expanded into Factory Driver Challenge, Endurance Hall and Ranked Online License Test modes, while its improved throttle response mechanic has been added to several new categories, including Group C, GT, GT1, GT3, GT4, LMP, MX-5 Trophy and N-GT.

Straight4 has also added an online ‘EventHub’ feature, allowing players to plan their next Ranked Online race in PMR. A full list of in-progress and upcoming events is available on the EventHub website here.
