Rennsport issues another new roadmap

By Thomas Harrison-Lord

Things haven’t been going well for Rennsport of late. The cross-platform sim racing title hosted a media event in February, where the latest build and upcoming content were tested, plus a new roadmap for the year ahead was published.

But, behind the scenes, trouble was brewing, as console publisher Nacon filed for insolvency. The platform’s steward, Competition Company, has since announced a switch to self-publishing, but the process is taking longer than anticipated.

The update, first expected in March, now has a tentative May release window.

Following a series of publisher-related delays, the prior roadmap is discarded, replaced with seasons.

This is once again reiterated today, alongside what is billed as a “goal for the near future” and “first marker on a much longer circuit.”

It strips away exact dates, previously published, and instead places upcoming content and features into seasons, which is much vaguer.

According to Rennsport, it will “only announce specifics when the code is verified.”

“Once the DLC content is in your hands, we will maintain a steady pace of development.”

Sebring, Laguna and the Porsche GT4 car remain free content. While they don’t have a release window, they will arrive after May’s first DLC pack, but before the ‘summer.

Elsewhere, the Hockenheimring Classic layout is expected as part of the previously announced Touring Classics DLC pack, with further DLC not until the ‘winter’. The game has ambitious plans for cross-platform community-created circuits, and this plan starts to roll out in the summer also.

One key complaint so far has been the livery marketplace, but in time for the May update, several real-world motorsport designs will be added.

“There is renewed energy within the RENNSPORT team,” continues the statement.

“We have taken full responsibility for the path behind us, and we are now choosing the steady precision of an endurance racer over the noise of short-term hype.”

An exact release date for the next additions is expected within the next month. It is also set to include revised post-processing and lighting, demonstrated in this video below.
