This week, it’s a climb to the top of the mountain at Mount Panorama. There are multiple strategies to employ, which one will you pick?
Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, w/c 8th May: Many ways to climb Mount Panorama

Gran Turismo 7‘s ranked Sport Mode Daily Races take on some different challenges this week, and each has their own unique flair. Superspeedway-style draft racing is on the table in the unranked Race A, while two historic venues in the Nürburgring and Bathurst are on the table for Gr.3 and Gr.4 racing, respectively.

The Race B event, somehow, is probably the least destructive race you’ll find this week. Oval racing in general provides lots of contact and incidents while the run up to and down the peak of the mountain at Bathurst is one of the trickiest out there.

Once again, I’ll be taking these on for you all as my co-workers are coronating a king or some sort. I don’t know, the only king I acknowledge is NASCAR’s Richard Petty. Anyway, I’ve been enjoying the weeks where I get to learn about these different races, and I hope that these articles have been a help as well.

By the way, if you’re newer than me here, GT7’s Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances. All my races this week were scrappy as I’ve managed to get myself up to the B Driver level now, so naturally, everyone is better than me.

If you can race clean, you’ll improve your Safety Rating, and if you’re able to score great results, you can boost your Driver Rating. Race hard, race clean, and have fun.

RACE A – Superspeedway racing at Special Stage Route X

This is my jam, right here. Alas, it is a bit of a let down when you do get into the details, but it’s also a one lap drafting and nitrous-filled wide open battle at the long one that is Special Stage Route X.

In this particular race, you aren’t using any car of your own, just the ones specified to use. There are 10 of them, and truly I’d like to say that you could just pick your favorite, that just isn’t the case here.

Alas, there’s one clear favorite among the populous off the bat—the Merc. While I saw some Bugattis in the field, the Mercedes-AMG GT seemed to be the one with the most speed and the most preferred among the masses.

Now, this is an unranked race, so it’s just for fun, but if you want to know how to win one of these, it’s a matter of chess at, well, 250mph. Stay in the draft, block the runs, don’t get yourself turned and save that Nitrous push-to-pass button until you need it. Use it to get yourself into the lead and then make sure you’re on it until the line.

It does say that tuning is allowed, but I don’t know about that one. That doesn’t seem to be an applicable option. By the way, race aggressive, but don’t wreck anyone either. That’ll be a five-second penalty at the end of the race.

RACE B – Gr.3 at Nürburgring GP

Probably the most straight-forward race of the week, simply put, it’s a sprint race with Gr.3 cars at the Sprint (or GP) section of the Nürburgring.

Nothing too flashy or difficult, just really getting to know the track and how to overtake cleanly is the main prerogative here. There are plenty of passing zones if you know how to use the brakes and maximize your corners.

With the BoP, this is also a pretty simple selection from many to choose from, as far as the car choice is concerned. Many top times have come from the Lamborghini stable so far this week, but the Audi R8 LMS Evo and the Mercedes-AMG GT3 are also decent choices as well.

Recommended car: Lamborghini Huracán GT3 ’15 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)

RACE C – Gr.4 at Bathurst

Race C is a doozy, with an unclear strategy that is reminiscent of last week’s Spa event, but maybe a little tougher. In this race, fuel is a concern on top of the possible tire strategy, with medium compound being available but hard compound being the mandatory tire to use in the race.

So with all that, there are a few strategies. First is the car, and the clear favorite here is the Nissan Silvia spec-R Aero. If you don’t have one, rent one. The Ferrari 458 Italia Gr.4 isn’t bad either. You could start on Hard or Medium tires, go a certain amount of laps, pit, take a lap of fuel and change to the other tire compound.

Players could also opt to save fuel with fuel mapping. If you keep the mapping on 1, which is the fastest, you’ll be a lap short. Maybe run it at 2 for a few laps, which will compromise time, but will get you to the finish. Both strategies, whether you pit or stay out, require a flawless eight laps.

Lap Time Challenge

The Olympic Esports event is in the books, congratulations to all who participated. This week’s Lap Time Challenges include a run at Grand Valley South in the Wicked Fabrication GT ’51, which Tom covered last week. There’s also a Gr.3 challenge at Fuji to partake in.

Lap Time Challenge C Recommended Car: Lamborghini Huracán GT3 ’15 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free car rental)

A new Lap Time Challenge will become available on the 11th of May at 7 am GMT to replace the Fuji challenge.
