Here’s a car you’ve likely not driven very much, or at all, within Gran Turismo 7. Yet another new Lap Time Challenge is available, following the two added last week, also sitting alongside the current Olympic entry event.
That means there are still three time trails to compete in and try to earn some valuable in-game credits from.
Replacing the combination of an Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm and the Red Bull Ring is another fast saloon car – only this one is a bit unique.
A winner of the Gran Turismo SEMA award in 2016 at the real-world Las Vegas event, the Wicked Fabrication GT ’51 is a heavily modified Ford Custom Club Coupe.
It’s been lowered, the design modified by the removal of the bumper/fender bars and fitted with a heavily tuned Lincoln V8 engine.
The track in use is the reimagined Grand Valley South. So, two American icons, revised for the 21st century. It fits.
When it comes to driving, the retro American coupe has an extremely tall fifth gear, no limited-slip differential and only sports medium tyres.
Expect lots of corner entry understeer, followed by wayward oversteer should you boot it too soon upon corner exit.
Heading into the first and second corner, you need to be braking at around the 300-metre board on the left, and heading in a straight line into the second turn, the first major right-hander. Be sure to shift up from second to third swiftly and maybe even before the corner ends.
You then plunge downhill, where Turn 4 can catch you out – remember, there’s a small section of gravel upon the exit, making it tighten more than you expect. Drive in the dirt, and you receive a track-limit penalty.
Later around the lap, Turn 9 is a 90-degree right after you’ve driven through the tunnel. This is unsighted, so brake earlier than expected (near where the longer layout would turn left) and make sure you carry as much momentum as possible through the next twisty section.
GT7‘s Lap Time Challenge is a time trial mode where you compete against other players to set the fastest time on the leaderboard. However, there’s a caveat: setting a lap within three per cent of the fastest time nets players 2,000,000 Credits.
If you aren’t quite quick enough, then lapping within five per cent gains you 1,000,000 Credits, while a time inside 10 per cent of the fastest results in a 250,000 Credit payout.
At the time of publication, the leading time is 1:15.473, but expect that to drop even further over the next seven days. Can you get close enough to earn a cool 2,000,000 Credits?
